How to Become #CaBiWinterWarriors

by Korrea Johnston

Did you know that Capital Bikeshare is open and available everyday of the year—winter months included? So the system provides a healthy, affordable, and accessible transportation option to DC area residents, tourists, and frequent visitors all year round! What’s most impressive is how many people still actually use the bikes during colder winter months, a fact which may be attributed in-part to the #CaBiWinterWarrior contest.

From the contest’s opening day on January 1st through January 30th, a total of 182,200 trips were taken by over 1,000 Capital Bikeshare members who opted into the contest. This level of participation comes at no surprise to Regional Marketing Manger, Nate Graham:

“Capital Bikeshare is a quick, easy way for people to get from point A to point B (and possibly back). A little cold weather doesn’t keep people from the need for a wide variety of transportation options. Biking is often the fastest way to get where you need to go when there are detours or congestion, like we experienced in January 2017.”

So, grab your beanie hat, woolly scarf, and cozy gloves, and snap a picture of yourself riding in your winter gear using the hashtag #CaBiWinterWarriors for a chance to win the contest! The service plans to recognize riders who qualify for the three tiers below with a digital medal and a prize drawing entry:

  • Gold Medal: 100+ rides
  • Silver Medal: 50+ rides
  • Bronze Medal: 25+ rides

They’ll also award prizes to the riders with the most trips taken during the competition, the most stylish winter ensemble, and the most days ridden.

Capital Bikeshare’s #CaBiWinterWarrior competition ends on March 1. For additional information, rules, and regulations, visit CapitalBikeshare.com. You can also follow along on Capital Bikeshare’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds.
