ALL-STAR EMPLOYERS

Our All-Star employers, offer a robust sustainable transportation program to their employees. From transportation benefits and amenities to creative incentives and educational opportunities, our All-Star employers help make the District the healthiest, greenest, and most livable city in the United States. 

BRONZE CRITERIA

In order to join the program at the Bronze level, you must implement at least one of the following strategies:

  • Expresses interest in telework, transit benefits, SmartBenefits, or other alternative commuting strategies
  • Conduct a commuter survey
  • Distribute sustainable commute info to employees and/or post alternative commute information on employee bulletin boards, intranet sites, newsletter or e-mail
  • Install electric car charging stations at the worksite

  • Digital badge for online marketing use

SILVER CRITERIA

In order to reach the Silver level, you must meet the requirements of the bronze level, plus offer two or more of the following:

  • Install permanent display case or brochure holders
  • Install transit screen
  • Install bicycle racks or lockers
  • Install shower facilities
  • Implement flex-time or staggered work schedule
  • Implement compressed workweek for 1-20% of employees
  • Implement telework program with 1-20% of employees participating
  • Provide preferential parking for carpools/vanpools Facilitate car/vanpool formation meetings
  • Become a Commuter Connections member and provide on-site ridematching
  • Establish an Employee Transportation Coordinator
  • Supplement Guaranteed Ride Home program with payment for additional trips or own program
  • Host/sponsor alternative commute day or transportation fair (i.e. Car Free Day, Bike to Work Day, Commuter Safety Fair)
  • Participate in the Capital Bikeshare Corporate Membership program

  • Implement a carpool/bicycle/walk benefit
  • Charge a fee for parking but provide free or significantly discounted parking for carpools and vanpools
  • Employee shuttle to transit stations
  • Company vanpools for employees’ commutes to work
  • Comprehensive bicycle/walking program (showers, bike racks, lockers, financial incentives, indoor bike storage, bike fix-it, bike pump, bike club, cargo bikes – must have at least 3)
  • Implement parking fee

ALL-STAR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES

Our All-Star residential properties, offer robust sustainable transportation amenities and go out of their way to promote sustainable transportation options to their residents. By educating residents about their travel options in and around the District and providing them with amenities that help them to travel sustainably, our All-Star residential properties help make the District the healthiest, greenest, and most livable city in the United States. 

BRONZE CRITERIA

In order to join the program at the Bronze level, you must complete the required strategy, plus implement at least two of the following strategies:

REQUIRED STRATEGY:

  • Meet with a goDCgo Residential Services Representative annually.

OTHER STRATEGIES:

  • Express interest in offering transit subsidies, incentives, or sustainable amenities 
  • Conduct a residential commute survey
  • Provide transportation information to all new residents (i.e. welcome packets)
  • Designate a contact to coordinate transportation for your site  
  • Share goDCgo resources and newsletter with residents
  • Provide complimentary transit brochures and resources 
  • Customize a Get Around Guide to highlight alternative transportation options near the property

SILVER CRITERIA

In order to reach the Silver level, you must meet the requirements of the Bronze level. Plus satisfy the required strategy and implement at least two of the following strategies: 

Required Strategy: 

  • Host a goDCgo lobby event with transportation information annually 

Other Strategies:

  • Provide/Install bike maintenance equipment 
  • Host a bicycle safety/information class or bicycle repair event for residents 
  • Offer a walking tour of all the transportation options near the property 
  • Provide a goDCgo transportation training to property staff 
  • List available parking spaces for non-residents vehicles (vanpools, carpools) 
  • Support internal carpool formation 
  • Promote transportation events (i.e. Bike to Work Day, National Walking Day, Car Free Day) 
  • Post commute information on intranet/website, bulletin boards, and other common areas 
  • Maintain a transit brochure display in the lobby or common area 
  • Provide residents with transportation accessories (i.e. bike locks, helmets, etc.) 
  • Provide a designated space for residents to telework

  • Provide bike storage (racks, rooms, lockers, etc.)
  • Provide a transit benefit or preloaded SmarTrip card to all residents 
  • Provide Capital Bikeshare Annual Memberships to 10% or more residents 
  • Provide onsite carsharing/carsharing memberships for residents and/or property employees 
  • Designate at least 2 parking spaces for carpools/vanpools 
  • Install a real-time transit display in a common area 
  • Install additional bike racks (artistic or traditional) 
  • Provide a shuttle service for residents to transit 
  • Provide electric car charging stations for at least 2 vehicles 
  • Unbundle parking from rent prices 
  • Implement a creative car-free or car-lite lifestyle program  
  • Allow parking access to non-resident vanpool vehicles 
  • Implement a NEW non-mandated parking fee

Complete at least one strategy for staff or students.

Staff-focused strategies:

  • Conduct baseline commuter survey of school and administrative staff
  • Express interest in offering transit benefits or alternative commuter benefits program
  • Include transportation information (bike, walk, transit, rideshare) on intranet, bulletin boards, school website, etc.
  • Distribute information about available transit benefits to all new hires and employees (e.g. flyer, email, etc.)

Student-focused strategy:

  • Provide information about Kids Ride Free to all students and families

BRONZE PERKS

  • Letter of acknowledgment

SILVER CRITERIA

Complete required strategy plus one additional strategy for staff or students.

Required strategy:

  • Designate a school transportation coordinator and share their contact information with goDCgo

Staff-focused strategies:

  • Provide pre-tax transportation benefits for transit or vanpool use
  • Meet with goDCgo School Services and develop a Sustainable Transportation Plan
  • Set-up a permanent transportation information display and/or transit screens
  • Host a transportation or benefits fair to promote commuter benefits

Student-focused strategies:

  • Provide students free or discounted courses on how to learn to ride a bike
  • Facilitate external carpool or ‘walkpool’ formation meetings for students and families
  • Conduct travel surveys of students and families every two years
  • Provide shuttle service to and from transit stations for students

Each year in spring, goDCgo recognizes All-Star employers, schools, and residential properties for going above and beyond to promote sustainable transportation and implementing robust commuter benefits programs and amenities at goDCgo Transportation All-Star Awards. The exclusive award ceremony in an elite DC location provides attendees with breakfast, networking, keynote speakers, awards, and more! Get your invite by becoming a Transportation All-Star. 

7th Annual Transportation All-Star Awards

The 7th Annual Transportation All-Star Awards was held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at the Pendry Hotel at the Wharf. The first time back in person since 2019, It was a great morning of networking, speakers, amazing food, and celebrating DC employers, schools, hotels, and multi-family residential properties for their exceptional commitment to sustainable transportation. A special thank you to our honored guests and speakers, including DOEE Sustainable Ambassador and Washington Spirits player, Anna Heilferty; Deputy Mayor for Operations and Infrastructure (DMIO), Lucinda Babers; and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Deputy Director, Sharon Kershbaum.

2023 Award Winners

  • Hospitality Transportation Coordinator of the Year

    Shujaat Khan, of the Intercontinental Wharf, gets the hotel involved with all goDCgo sustainable promotions and makes sure guests have the latest brochures and guides of special happenings like Cherry Blossoms, 4th of July, and Winter Wonders. 

  • Residential Transportation Coordinator of the Year

    Henry Ferguson, of the Channel District Wharf, keeps his residents up to date with the latest transportation news and helps them access services near their location. 

  • Employee Transportation Coordinator of the Year

    Jeffery Martinez, of Inter-American Development Bank, never misses an opportunity get creative with sustainability. He leveraged the goDCgo Commuter Challenge, as promotion for his internal sustainable programs and  turned Car Free Day into a week-long, “sustainable-commuting”-themed event

  • School Transportation Coordinator of the Year

    Chris Oster, from Georgetown Day School, has implemented a range of programs including carpooling, green commuting benefits, bike to school day, and teaches a summer course on environmental sustainability.

    The World Bank as a part of the Capital Bikeshare Corporate program provides their employees with discounted memberships had nearly 42,000 individual rides in 2022 alone.

  • Capital Bikeshare Champion for Residents

    Cielo Modern Residences has purchased over 300 Capital Bikeshare Memberships to make sure their residents have bicycle access to navigate the city and beyond.

    HOK, implemented their own Parking Cashout benefit before there was the DC Parking Cashout Law demonstrating their forward thinking and commitment to sustainability.

    The Pendry Hotel wraps alternative and sustainable transportation into their stay packages to make it easy for guests to navigate the city. Complimentary amentias include bike/ebike rentals and Cadillac shuttle service.

  • Most Unique & Innovative Residential Transportation Program

    Vesta Parkside offers a host of sustainable transportation amenities to their residents. These range from EV charging, on-site bus stop, and bike storage, to  Capital Bikeshare across the street and footbridge access to the Minnesota Avenue Metro Station.

    Google DC has reduced their employee’s drive alone rates to less than 10% by offering pre-tax transit subsidies, vanpool matching, Capital Bikeshare memberships, bike amenities, emergency rides home, and a flexible work week.

    Inter-American Development Bank, has green ambassadors that promote sustainable behaviors and initiatives. One example is their  Car Free Day event where they raffled off an ebike and provided free bike tune ups.
