Dock Your Bike to Get the Green Light

by Korrea Johnston

Do you know how to use Capital Bikeshare? You just have to unlock, ride, and return your bike — it’s simple as that! To end your Capital Bikeshare trip successfully and avoid additional usage fees, you must return your bike to any Capital Bikeshare station or corral at the end of your trip.

If a station is full and there are no remaining docks, find another nearby station with enough space to dock the bike. Once you find an available docking station, push your bike firmly into the empty dock and wait for the green light to make sure it’s properly locked. If you do not see a green light, then that means your trip may still be open, and you will continue to be charged for your journey.

Watch Capital Bikeshare’s video that makes docking as easy as 1-2-3!

Still Having Trouble?

If you’re still having trouble docking a bike, first try finding a different dock. Otherwise, please contact Capital Bikeshare customer service. Never leave your bike unattended. It’s a good idea to enable push notifications on the Capital Bikeshare mobile app, so you’ll get a confirmation every time you’ve successfully docked your bike. If your ride is not properly docked and the system notices a parking violation, you’ll get in-app alerts or emails. If you prefer to receive an email confirmation, you can sign up through your Capital Bikeshare account online – log into your account through the website, scroll down to “Membership status,” click on “Manage notifications,” check the box next to “Yes, send me an email notification each time I return a bike” and click the “Change” button.
