Marine Corps Marathon to Impact Travel on Sunday, 10/25

Due to road closures surrounding the Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 25, the following service changes have been made to area transportation options:

Capital Bikeshare

Capital Bikeshare staff will be unable to service stations in parts of DC and Arlington. See a map of the marathon route here.

The station at Iwo Jima Memorial / N Meade & 14th St N in Arlington will be offline and unavailable from 5pm on Saturday, Oct. 24 until 5pm on Sunday, Oct. 25. Many other stations near the National Mall, Georgetown, Crystal City and Rosslyn will not be accessible to rebalancing staff. Please check station status on or the SpotCycle app before beginning your trip.

To serve those heading to the finish line in Rosslyn, Capital Bikeshare will offer Corral Service at the Lynn St & 19th St N station from 8am until 4pm on Sunday, Oct. 25. Corral Service will offer guaranteed open docks by having staff on hand to keep station docks open for bikes to arrive. Choose to ride to the finish line and see your favorite runner finish!

DC Circulator

Due to street closures during the marathon, the following service changes will begin Sunday, October 25 at the start of service:

National Mall: Service Suspended until 2pm

Dupont Circle-Georgetown-Rosslyn: Service Suspended until 2pm

Georgetown-Union Station: Detours until 2pm

Detour: All West-bound buses headed in the direction of Georgetown will run regular service up until the Pennsylvania Ave. NW/22nd St. stop before traveling around Washington Circle and heading East back toward Union Station.

Buses will not travel into Georgetown and will not service the following stops (all stops west of Washington Circle)

  • Pennsylvania Ave NW/26th St.
  • Pennsylvania Ave. NW/28th St.
  • M St. NW/Thomas Jefferson St.
  • M St. NW/Wisconsin Ave.
  • Wisconsin Ave./O St.
  • Wisconsin Ave./Q St.
  • Wisconsin Ave./R St. (Georgetown Library)
  • Wisconsin Ave./34th St.
  • Wisconsin Ave./35th Street 


Pentagon Transit Center will be closed from 4 am until approximately 4 pm During this time, all Metrobus service will be moved to Pentagon City.

Rosslyn Bus Terminal will be closed from 4 am until approximately 6 pm During this time, all Metrobus service will be moved to Oak Street.


Metrorail will open two hours early, at 5 am.

Arlington Cemetery will not open until 8:30 am, after the marathon is underway. The station should only be used to access to finish area or to leave the event after the race.

To accommodate high ridership, Metro will operate additional Blue Line trains between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory between 5 am and 8:15 am and between 11:30 am and 4:30 pm
