DESCRIPTION:
Metro will host the second of three public meetings\, Thursday\, May 10\, as it looks to consolidate bus stops to improve efficiency and on-time performance.
The meetings begin at 7 p.m. and will take place:
•Thursday\, May 10\, at Mount Airy Baptist Church of Washington\, DC\, 1100 North Capitol Street NW.
•Thursday\, May 17\, at Trinity Episcopal Church\, 7005 Piney Branch Road NW.
Metro is considering consolidating bus stops that see relatively low numbers of passengers and/or are in close proximity to other stops in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Bus stop consolidation would benefit passengers with better on-time performance and more frequent service at remaining stops\, and help Metro save both fuel and maintenance costs as a result of less stopping and starting.
After gauging public input\, a second round of meetings to be held this summer will seek to identify stops and provide a timeframe for consolidation. Metro plans to review bus stops along three or four lines each quarter. No bus stops have yet been identified for consolidation.Check goDCgo for information on getting to the May 17 meeting.
